July, July
First off, thanks to everyone who came out for our holiday edition of 1st Saturday. We had about 80 folks come out and cleared over 500 lbs of trash off Newport’s streets & beaches. The biggest culprits, once again, were cigarette butts (stay tuned for a special on this from ZTN’s own Dr. Wdowin). Again, thanks to all of you for fighting the good fight with us and spreading the word. Read more
I Remember my 1st Saturday
Thanks to everyone who came out for our ZeroTrash Newport Coalition kickoff on Saturday. Not gonna lie, the hurricane on Friday night had us a little worried. We would have been hitting the streets, rain or shine, but luckily the trash gods were smiling on us. The sun came out and we were able to pick up after the storm. We caffeinated with XS & Alta Coffee and hit the streets & beaches, picking up over 500 lbs of trash from our streets and beaches. Check out our article from yesterday’s Daily Pilot!
A huge thanks to Avila’s El Ranchito for an unlimited supply of tacos, taquitos, quesedillas; all sorts of amazing mexican grub for everyone in a ZTN shirt (courtesy of Surterre).
If you missed this one, make sure to join us on March 6 for the next installment of ZeroTrash Newport’s 1st Saturday!
October Meeting & Mixer with Surfrider NB
Our friends at Surfrider’s local chapter in Newport Beach have invited us to join forces at their October meetup. We’ll be talking trash on Wednesday, October 21st at Hurley headquarters in Costa Mesa. This will be a great chance for us to discuss our collaboration efforts here in town. Surfrider NB focuses a lot of their resources on protecting our waterways and working upstream to keep the Santa Ana River clean.
Many of you have come to us about in getting more involved with ZeroTrash. This will be a great place to start.
If you want to come, just meet us at Hurley (1945 Placentia Avenue) at 6pm. You can RSVP here in the comments section below or via the facebook invite.
See you there!
Hello Newport!
We are ZeroTrash Newport; a community clean-up project dedicated to ridding streets of trash, supporting local business & taking personal responsibility for the environment.

A few ZT Newport members in front of El Ranchito
The cornerstone of ZeroTrash is our 1st Saturday program. We bring the community & local businesses together on the 1st Saturday of every month to clean up the town. This past weekend marked the inauguration of 1st Saturday here in town. We met at the front door of our first Storefront Supporter in Newport, Avila’s El Ranchito on the Peninsula. It was a great turnout and succesfull event. A big thanks to everyone who showed up!
A special thanks to XS Energy, Newport Beach Magazine, Avila’s El Ranchito & Surterre Properties for making this thing happen!
We’ll be back at El Ranchito on November 7 at 10 am for next month’s 1st Saturday. Come check it out! Reach out to us here on the blog if you’d like to get involved.
PICK IT UP!
