I Remember my 1st Saturday

No Comments 1st Saturday, Community Voices

Thanks to everyone who came out for our ZeroTrash Newport Coalition kickoff on Saturday.  Not gonna lie, the hurricane on Friday night had us a little worried.  We would have been hitting the streets, rain or shine, but luckily the trash gods were smiling on us.  The sun came out and we were able to pick up after the storm.  We caffeinated with XS & Alta Coffee and hit the streets & beaches, picking up over 500 lbs of trash from our streets and beaches. Check out our article from yesterday’s Daily Pilot!

A huge thanks to Avila’s El Ranchito for an unlimited supply of tacos, taquitos, quesedillas; all sorts of amazing mexican grub for everyone in a ZTN shirt (courtesy of Surterre).

If you missed this one, make sure to join us on March 6 for the next installment of ZeroTrash Newport’s 1st Saturday!

Californians use 19 Billion Plastic Bags Every Year..

Say No to Plastic Bags on December 17th

Be a part of the solution tomorrow, December 17th, for A Day Without a Bag. It’s an education and grassroots event coordinated by Heal the Bay that involves businesses and individuals throughout Los Angeles County.  ZeroTrash Newport is teaming up with Surfrider NB to bring the event to our community to ask holiday shoppers and retailers to forgo single-use, plastic shopping bags in favor of reusable bags.

We’ll be set up at Albertson’s on the Peninsula (3100 West Balboa Boulevard) all day, handing out free reusable shopping bags & other enviro swag. We will also be taking pledges for Surfrider’s Rise Above Plastics project. Join us in raising awareness and promoting more sustainable practices during the holidays and coming year.. and let us know what you are doing to Rise Above Plastics.
